Continuing my pursuit of humanity’s intricate pursuits, I had the pleasure of making a short documentary on the renowned jeweller William Griffiths. With a career spanning many continents and 40 years, William has developed a distinct style – one that emerges from a synthesis of intricacy, colour and Gothic inspirations.
Yet again, the main challenge during principal photography was that of scale. The documentation of an intricate subject means the camera work must be no less intricate; minute shakes and movements are amplified and if the subject moves even slightly, reframing takes an extremely long time. However, as with most things, the hard work has indeed paid off; culminating in my favourite macro shoot to date.
